In John, Jesus speaks many words, but he shows his message in signs and actions. Here, in just the second action of his ministry, Jesus disrupts and overturns the systems of corruption and exploitation in his society. John is often thought to portray a “spiritual” Jesus, rather than an “activist” Jesus. But in this early story, Jesus reveals his justice values. “Again and again, we are shown the way. May we fearlessly follow Jesus who is “the way, the truth and the life.”
