Most of this series invites us to live in the messy middle between two binary poles, to resist choosing either faith or works, rest or growth, being either lost or found, righteousness or mercy, grief and hope.
But the Ash Wednesday scripture and theme invites us to step out of the paralyzed or fearful middle: to choose or decide. “Lent calls us to step forward, even when we’re not fully ready.” Jesus “set his face toward Jerusalem” and nothing could stop him. He invites us to follow him and not let griefs or other commitments stop us.
