Young AdultsNEW☺20-30 SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS Here’s a class that’s been enthusiastically requested. Jessica Rice has agreed to be the facilitator and has been meeting with Pastor Mike for curriculum ideas. The new class will ultimately choose discussion areas that may include the Rob Bell video series or book studies that will follow upcoming sermon series like James W. Moore’s I Hear Voices and That’s a Good Thing (November) and Adam Hamilton’s The Journey (Advent). The class will start meeting on November 6 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 9 next to the old kitchen (Korean lunch smells and sampling will be an enticement). Jessica would love to hear from this 20-30 age group either at jessie_1999@hotmail.com or at 740-819-7672.
| Matthew 18:20Meets at 10:00 a.m. in room 10 and is led by Herb Shifley. The class is fun, open, and supportive, with members in their 40’s to 50’s. Very informal discussions from devotional material, bible studies, Christian growth, discipleship areas, ethical concerns, or current events. “We just have a desire to share and learn from each other.” Currently the class has been following Pastor Mike’s October sermon series using Life of The Beloved by Henri Nouwen. Advent plans are for using Adam Hamilton’s The Journey, beginning November 13. Members are not required to read or study in advance unless personally inclined or led to do so. “Stop by room 9/10 any Sunday. We welcome anyone to join us!” Email Herb at hshifley@wowway.com or call him at 614-791-8254 Updated: November 1, 2011 |
DisciplesMeets weekly at 10:00 am in room 16 using a short-term, small group style of study. The class is informal, open, and supportive, with members in their 50’s and 60’s. Topics include books of the Bible, Christian and Spiritual growth, discipleship, and ethical concerns. Our current DVD study is Jim Wallis’ Justice for the Poor by Jim Wallis, which recaptures the biblical vision that links poverty with justice. The Disciples have recently organized a new monthly ministry at Bethel, the “Free Community Fellowship Dinner,” whose roots stem from a summer study of Bill Hybels’ book, Whispers from God. Several class members heard God’s call to do more for those in need. Visitors are always welcome. The fellowship of the class also grows through their social activities. For more information, contact John at jstgermain@columbus.rr.com or at 614-459-3061. Updated: November 1, 2011 | PillarsMeets at 10:00 a.m. in Room 4. The class teacher is Bill Simons, but currently the Pillars are being led by a rotation of class members while Bill works in the replay booth of college football games. Favorite selected biblical passages are presently providing the foundation for great group discussion, which is a major feature of the class. Membership is of those 60 and older, although people of all ages are more than welcomed. This is a very warm and social class who attempts to have an evening outing each month. Pat Dawson, the class president, would be pleased to talk with anyone about the Pillars. She can be reached at 614-457-6439. Updated: November 1, 2011 |
Second MilersMeets weekly at 10:00 a.m. in room 6 and has been led by Joe Chawner for the past 25 years. This class takes on the personality of Joe in being a friendly and welcoming group. In July the Second Milers presented Joe with a plaque of a star celebrating him being their “shining star” for all of these years. The class, which is currently comprised but not limited to those 50 and older, uses the Adult Bible Study series of The United Methodist Church. They offer coffee, goodies, and great discussion each Sunday, often dining together outside the church and gathering for an annual cook-out favorite. You can reach Joe at 614-799-2047 or at joseph.chawner@att.net
Updated: November 1, 2011 | SeekersMeets regularly at 10:00 a.m. in Room 3 from September through May and is led by Darrell Parks. The class is inter-generational and currently comprised of fifteen members. The class concentrates primarily on in-depth studies of scripture and its application to daily life. On occasion it engages in church seasonal issues (e.g., stewardship, Advent, Lent) or sermon-related studies. Currently the class is engaged in an 8-week study of Henri Nouwen's book, Life of the Beloved pursuant to the Pastor's sermon series and most likely will be followed by a study of the book of Micah. Class sessions are discussion-based, usually following the class leader's prepared notes and suggested questions, however participant thoughts and comments are welcomed and freely offered. Faith Discovery ClassMeets at 10:00 a.m. in room 1 and is led by Mike Warburton. The class is open to all ages and is currently made up of people in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. A wide variety of material provides the basis for discussions, including bible studies and devotionals. Examples have been Phillip Yancey’s (Prayer, Does it Make Any Difference), Lee Stroble’s The Case for Faith and Adam Hamilton’s 24 Hours That Changed the World. The class is currently using Henri Nouwen’s book, Life of the Beloved, which parallels Pastor Mike’s October sermon series. We would love to see you.” Reach Mike at mwarburton@wowway.com or at 614-529-8876. Updated: November 1, 2011 |
