TOGETHER: Susie & Sandy

A story of friendship built by faith

Bethel members have always been close, afterall we are a church family. But, it’s times like these that push us even closer to one another and to God.

Meet Susie & Sandy.Sandy Susie

There are those who talk the talk, there are those who walk the walk, And then there are those who do both, at the same time, TOGETHER.  Bethel International members Sandy Dunlap and Susie Martin have known each other for years. But, they became close spiritual friends after COVID shut things down. Tired of being cooped up at home, yet not thinking it safe to meet inside, they took up walking TOGETHER around the church parking lot.

Why at the church?  “Well,” Suzie says, “even if you can’t go inside, there’s still something special about being at the church.  It makes me feel closer to God and to my church friends to be here.” And why TOGETHER?  “To have someone to talk to,” says Sandy.  Actually,” she says, “we don’t always even have to talk. Just someone to be with.”

“Two are better than one,” says the Bible in Ecclesiastes 4:9.  “ If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.  But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”  And that’s just what happened.  On March 29, a sudden gust of wind knocked Susie down and she broke her shoulder.  But Sandy was there to call for help, and just seven weeks later—after surgery and a stay at a rehab facility--Susie was back at it.  And that is why it’s better to talk the talk, and walk the walk, TOGETHER!

You can see God’s work in the friendship of Susie & Sandy. With each new lap around our parking lot, their friendship strengthens and their faith deepens. Love for our church and community fill their hearts with each step along the way.
